About Us

Canil Cantigas de Lisboa was born out of a fascination with a truly Portuguese breed — a dog shaped by work, the sea, and partnership with people. We believe breeding Portuguese Water Dogs is, above all, a responsibility: to the breed, to every puppy we place in a new family, and to the dogs who live with us.

Our breeding philosophy rests on three pillars. First, health: we work closely with veterinarians and follow the genetic screenings recommended for the breed before any breeding decision. Second, temperament: we always look for the balance between the energy and intelligence that made this breed indispensable to Portuguese fishermen, and the gentleness that makes it such a beloved family companion today. Third, working character: even as a companion dog, the Portuguese Water Dog needs stimulation, activity, and a close bond with its family — and that's what we aim to preserve in every litter.

Our dogs live with us, at home, as part of the family. That's not just a nice phrase — it's the foundation of everything we do, from puppy socialization to the choice of every breeding pair.
